Dr Matthias Baud
Chemical biology, organic synthesis, medicinal chemistry and protein sciences
Profile
Dr Matthias Baud is a specialist in bioactive compounds development (pre-clinical). His research combines expertise in synthetic organic chemistry, molecular design, and biophysical/biochemical methods to characterise biomolecular interactions.
He has received a prestigious New Investigator Award from the UK Research and Innovation (UKRI), and prizes from the European Association for Cancer Research (EACR), the British Association for Cancer Research (BACR), and Astex Pharmaceuticals.
Matthias serves on diverse panels/groups, sits on the Scientific Expert Review Panel of the Chemical Probes Portal, regularly reviews for grant panels (including the EPSRC, BBSRC, Swiss National Fund, Wessex Medical Research, Fondation pour la Recherche Médicale FR, Rosetrees Trust, Worldwide Cancer Research) and scientific journals, along with editorial roles.
After undergraduate and MSc study in France and Switzerland, Matthias moved to the UK to do a PhD at Imperial College London, working on the development of new chemical probes for epigenetics. Research roles at the universities of Cambridge and Dundee followed, and from 2013 to 2016 he held an MRC Career Development Fellowship at the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology in Cambridge where he investigated protein reactivation by small molecules in oncology. He joined the University of Southampton in September 2016 and is currently Associate Professor in Medicinal Chemistry and Chemical Biology.
