Dr Ysobel Baker’s research focuses on the design and synthesis of new analogues of DNA for analytical and biomedical applications. Current projects include novel chemical modifications and new bioconjugation tools for nucleic acid therapeutics, and the design of new tools to study nucleic acids. 

After completing her PhD at the University of Cambridge, from 2015 to 2021 Ysobel was a postdoctoral researcher in the group of Professor Tom Brown at the University of Oxford, where she designed and synthesised new chemical modifications for therapeutic oligonucleotides. She was a senior chemist at the Nucleic Acid Therapy Accelerator (part of the Medical Research Council) before joining the University of Southampton as a Royal Society University Research Fellow.
